La disco music (in italiano anche detta musica disco o semplicemente disco) è un genere di musica pop che ha goduto di una grande popolarità a cavallo fra gli anni '70 e '80. Il nome si riferisce alle discoteche; i due fenomeni (il genere musicale e il tipo di locali) emersero infatti insieme come fenomeni strettamente correlati.
Si può dire che non esista musica del "genere" disco music non identificabile più propriamente come "disco funk", la disco è cioè derivazione e sottogenere del genere funky. La disco funk è precisamente una corrente del funky che nasce negli anni 70 e che avrà predominanza assoluta alla fine di quegli anni, questo perché la disco sarà la musica funk più commerciabile e più popolare; non a caso un gruppo funky storico come i Kool And The Gang diverranno anche uno dei gruppi più importanti della disco.




I Bee Gees sono stati un gruppo musicale britannico, formatosi in Australia.Il nome del complesso sembra derivare da Brothers Gibb (ossia fratelli Gibb): le due lettere, pronunciate nell'alfabeto inglese, possono essere riscritte nell'omofona espressione Bee Gee(s).
formazione:I fratelli Gibb, ossia Barry, cantante e chitarra acustica, e i gemelli Robin, prima voce, e Maurice, bassista, tastierista, chitarrista nonché cantante, nati a Douglas nell'Isola di Man negli anni quaranta, crebbero nell'area working-class di Chorlton-cum-Hardy a Manchester, al civico numero 51 di Keppel Road.

I Kool & the Gang sono un gruppo R&B/soul/funk statunitense. Si formarono nel 1964 a Jersey City, in New Jersey ed attraversarono diverse fasi nella loro carriera. Iniziarono come praticanti dell'R&B e del funk. Sicuramente attraversarono una fase durante la quale erano un'icona della musica, e segnarono il periodo di successo della loro carriera registrando canzoni che erano un misto tra il pop e l'R&B.

I membri principali del gruppo tra gli anni inclusero i fratelli Robert Bell (conosciuto come "Kool") al basso (nato l'8 ottobre 1950 a Youngstown, in Ohio) e Ronald Bell al sassofono tenore (nato l'1 novembre 1951 a Youngston, in Ohio); George Brown alla batteria (nato il 5 gennaio 1949); Robert Mickens alla trombetta; Dennis Thomas all'alto sassofono; Claydes Charles Smith alla chitarra (nato il 6 settembre 1948 e morto il 20 giugno 2006), il trombonista Clifford Adams e Rick Westfield alla tastiera. Il padre dei fratelli Bell era uno dei manager dei Thelonious Monk e i fratelli erano amici con Leon Thomas. Da notare che l'ultimo chitarrista dei Kool & the Gang, Claydes Charles Smith, scrisse molti dei successi del gruppo, tra cui "Joanna", "Hollywood Swinging" e "Celebration".
